The VFW trains State Service Officers to help all veterans—not just VFW members—receive VA benefits and services. Every year, our State Service Officers connect Pennsylvania veterans and their survivors with more than $30 million in benefits. This is a free service; there is no need to pay for VA claims help despite what you hear on TV. Many veterans prefer using a VFW State Service Officer because our staff has the highest possible level of training and no one matches our dedication to do what is right for you—whatever it takes.
Veterans from all service eras—including those serving today—rely on our State Service Officers to guide them to the benefits and services they earned. Our team gives you staunch advocates who work hand-in-hand with you during the application, review and appeal processes. We also assist veterans’ dependents, surviving spouses and children or parents of deceased veterans.

Thanks to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which awards the PA Department VFW funds through Act 66 “Veterans Service Officer Outreach Grant Program,” our service outreach extends into many rural areas. Home-bound veterans and their spouses should call their nearest office to schedule a home visit.

Many VFW Posts have internal Service Officers who provide general information about the VA and veterans benefits. While local Post Service Officers submit claims for veterans, while many provide forms and contact information for reaching a VFW State Service Officer.
