The Department is mourning the passing of long-time employee Judy Johnson, who many in the VFW family knew by the friendship and support she offered through her service at State HQ. Judy suffered a heart attack in the office on Friday and passed away on Monday.

For more than 20 years, Judy provided VFW Posts and leaders with a friendly and helpful support system for the Buddy Poppy and Post Service Officer programs. She was also the Department’s accounts receivable/payable specialist, who also provided support in other areas of state VFW operations. She is being remembered for her dedication to the VFW and for always taking as much time as needed to assist HQ callers and visitors. Her knowledge about Department history over the past two decades often came in handy and she always enjoyed recalling the people and stories that brought the PA VFW to life.

Judy was proud to call the VFW her extended family and we were proud to call her our friend. One only had to see and hear Judy interacting with VFW leaders at State HQ or at Dept. events to know she was appreciated for the positive impact she had on many people and for helping VFW Posts to carry out their mission. Judy, the VFW and your co-workers thank you and we miss you already.

Thursday, September 15 at Neumyer Funeral Home, 1334 No. Second Street in Harrisburg (233-7814). Viewing is at 10 a.m. and service follows at 11.
