elcome to the largest VFW state unit with 105,000 members. The Pennsylvania Department consists of patriotic veterans - men and women ranging in age from our newest combat veterans back to World War II heroes - who proudly serve our nation through the VFW. We served in major foreign campaigns, small operations and peacekeeping missions. Many members are on active duty or in Guard and Reserve units.

Joined by our Ladies Auxiliary the VFW serves veterans, their loved ones, military families and communities by "Honoring the Dead by Helping the Living." Our mission of providing assistance, advocacy and camaraderie is more important than ever before. Every year we contribute many hours in community service and many millions of dollars in donations, troop support and VA claims assistance. It's what we do.

If you already paid the high cost of eligibility, COME STAND PROUDLY WITH US in the greatest organization for veterans of foreign wars.

PA Dept. Earns Two National VFW Communications Awards

National VFW Communications Department recently announced the winners of its 2012 VFW National WebAward Competition. The judges noted that the Pennsylvania VFW Department site scored consistently higher in all of the rating categories, earning it first-place honors. Judging was based on navigation, load time, design and overall content.

The site was designed and programmed by Iraqi War veteran Ben Spera of Lancaster. Spera is a VFW Post 5956 member and owner/lead web developer of Sfatto Design. PA VFW Communications Director David Sandman served as the web project manager.

The Pennsylvania Department was also chosen to receive a second place award in the National VFW Publications Contest for its quarterly tabloid Pennsylvania VFW News. Judging was done by non-VFW-affiliated journalism professionals. Sandman produces the publication with oversight provided by the State Commander Larry N. Reece and State Adjutant/Quartermaster John Getz.

Compliance Help for New Small Games Law Now Available

Your VFW State HQ is pleased to share this helpful information that will assist your Post in complying with the new small games of chance law.

1). State HQ just received information about five free training sessions led by the PA PSP LCE and Dept. of Rev. to guide small games of chance operators to compliance with PA Act 2—the new small games of chance bill. We encourage each Post that runs small games of chance to send 2-3 key representatives to one of the sessions, preferably those persons who will oversee gaming operations including the purchase of games, handling of game earnings, recordkeeping and reporting. There is limited seating at these events. Therefore, Post officers who are not involved in the running/accounting/reporting of small games do not need to attend. You do not need to coordinate your attendance through State HQ.
